Create your first recurring automation

Need help creating your first recurring automation? Here are all the steps you need to follow.

Recurring automations help you engage users with consistent and scheduled messaging, perfect for reminders, promotions, or regular updates. This guide will walk you through creating your first recurring automation, covering targeting, scheduling, and message composition. Let’s get started! 🚀

The ‘Automations’ tab is dedicated to ‘automated’ campaigns such as Recurring and Trigger.

Here is a short guide to help create your first recurring automation on Batch following the 3 steps of the Automations form:

  1. Targeting: full base or fine-tuning segmentation, through native targeting or custom data;

  2. Timing: sending time that can either be now or scheduled;

  3. Message: the content of the campaign that will be sent to the user.

First, go to your Batch Dashboard and go to Automations > New automation > Select the channel of your choice (Recurring Email, Push or SMS), and name it to start a new automation:

Optional: you can add labels to your automation (up to 5):

Labels serve two main purposes: they allow you to set a marketing pressure limit across all campaigns/automations sharing the same label, and they enable you to filter campaigns/automations based on their assigned labels.

Then, let's set up your recurring automation! 💪

Targeting

The targeting block is where you will define the segmentation of your automation.

By default, Batch considers that you will target your entire audience. First, you can select a specific country or language.

Then, you can refine your segmentation through different options, by clicking:

Add Conditions

From then on, you will be able to select native targeting elements but also profile attributes (data specific to your app business and selected thanks to the tagging plan).

You can add up as many conditions as you want, and create specific scenarios by clicking on 'AND/OR'.

Use Segment

It will allow you to call Segments as blocks in the targeting and combine segments (inclusions and/or exclusions) by calling up to 10 segments in your targeting:

When a segment is linked to an orchestration, you can access / view the segment by clicking on the eye icon 👀

Use Audience

You can add a specific Audience to your communication:

Play with AND/OR option

You can add up as many conditions as you want, and create specific scenarios by clicking on 'AND/OR':

💡 Let's take the example of a recurring automation to wish users happy birthday with a nice message like; "Happy Birthday 🎁 Celebrate your special day with 20% OFF – just for you!". This automation is to be sent based on user's birth date.

Here's what automation targeting should look like:

Timing

Now that we know who to send your communication to, let's define when to send it!

First, set up the date and the hour of the first sending of the automation, and then the end date if needed:

You can choose to send your on Local time or Global time (UTC):

  • The Local Time option lets you send a message that will be received at a given time according to the user’s time zone. This ensures that marketing efforts target your users at a uniform time.

  • On the other hand, the Global Time (UTC) option allows you to send a message to your users at a specific UTC time regardless of their location.

Finally, let's define the frequency of the automation!

Depending on your automation goal, you can adapt the frequency of sending between days, weeks, and months.

It is also the time to set up a capping rule if you want to limit the number of times a user will receive your automation:
