How to Set Up Google Postmaster Tools?

This guide explains how to add your sending subdomain (for example hello.domain.com) to Google Postmaster Tools, and how to grant read access to Batch's team.

Why This Matters

Google Postmaster Tools provides essential, Gmail-specific metrics for your top sending destination:

  • Spam complaint rate

  • SPF/DKIM/DMARC authentication

  • TLS encryption

  • And more

No other tool gives you this visibility: these metrics are unique to Postmaster Tools, and they're indispensable for monitoring your deliverability and reacting fast if something degrades.

Prerequisites

  • A Google or Google Workspace account (corporate or team-shared) to sign in to Postmaster Tools.

  • Access to the DNS zone for the domain in question (usually asking your backend team).

  • The exact subdomains used for sending through Batch, e.g. hello.domain.com.

  • The address to add with read access: deliverability@batch.com.

Add and Verify your Subdomains

1

Sign in to postmaster.google.com with your company Google account to view all your email deliverability reports.

Note: Your company may have a shared Google account for Postmaster Tools. Use that account if one exists.

2

Add a Subdomain

Click Select a domain, then choose Manage domains from the dropdown menu.

Then click Add new domain and type the subdomain name you want to add.

3

Verify the Subdomain

Return to the Manage domains view. You will see your newly added subdomain. Click the three-dot menu next to it, then select Verify.

You need to add a DNS record to verify you own the subdomain. Google Postmaster Tools supports two options. Use the "CNAME" verification option.

Log in to the DNS management console for your domain with your host or DNS provider (OVH, Cloudflare, GoDaddy, etc.). Create the required record and save your changes. Then return to Postmaster Tools and click Verify.

Verification is usually immediate, but can take a few hours depending on DNS propagation.

4

Monitor Multiple Subdomains

To monitor additional subdomains, repeat these steps for each subdomain you want to monitor. We also recommend adding your root domain.

Traffic data won't appear in the dashboard until enough mail has been sent to Gmail addresses (typically 24 to 48 hours after verification, with a minimum sending volume). A successful verification with no visible data yet is not a problem in itself.

Share the Report with Batch

Sharing Postmaster Tools data with Batch's customer and deliverability team helps them support you better. Postmaster Tools reports do not contain personal data, such as recipient email addresses.

Once your subdomain is verified, you can invite others to view its dashboard. To do so:

  1. On the Manage Domains page in Postmaster Tools, find your subdomain.

  2. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) to the right of the domain name, then select Manage users.

  3. Click the + button in the bottom-right corner of the window.

  4. Enter the following address deliverability@batch.com, then confirm.

  5. Click Done. Access takes effect immediately.

Postmaster Tools does not automatically notify the person you add. Please let us know once access has been granted (by email or through your Batch contact) so our team can start monitoring. The access granted is read-only: Batch cannot modify or delete your configuration.
